The Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Mr Lasun Yusuff has charged Nigerians to go back to farm, saying any nation that deserts agriculture would find its self to blame.

Yusuff, according to his media aide, Wole Oladimeji, in a statement on Saturday, stated this at an empowerment programme he organised for 500 farmers and youths held in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

He said, “My decision to empower farmers, women and youths was borne out of the ideas of stimulating the country economy.

“It is a bold step to alleviate poverty and create wealth among the people of Osun State with an empowerment programme that cost N250m.”

He also suggested that Nigerians should add value to locally made products to meet international standard and acceptance.

Yusuff explained that, “Mass participation of agile youths in livestock and crop farming remains a panacea to getting out of the current economic quagmire and I am confident that the economy will get better with pragmatic steps being taken by the present government.”

The lawmaker also maintained that “the only way to adhere to President Muhammad Buhari’s call to stimulate the economy is to invest heavily in the productive sector, which is agriculture.”
