ABA— In a bid to ensure consumer satisfaction, the Consumer Protection Council, CPC, Abia State, has introduced a standard measurement cup to stop sharp practices in the sale of foodstuffs measured in cups.
Speaking at the event, Chairman, Consumer Protection Council, Abia State, Mr. Ukadike Ogbuagu, who said his agency decided to use the opportunity of the World Consumer Rights Day to enlighten consumers to demand their rights from the vendors of goods and services, added that the introduction of the measurement cup was to ensure that consumers get value for their money.
Ogbuagu lamented that the average consumer had suffered from inadequate awareness on the quality and nature of some products and services they buy from the market, adding that CPC in the state had reduced to the barest minimum, adulteration of spirit, wine, and other drinks as well as beverages.
He said: “We discovered that traders use different sizes of measurement cups in the sale of goods to the consumer, thereby short-changing the consumer.
“The average consumer does not know his rights which are guaranteed by law. We decided to use the opportunity of the World Consumer Rights Day to enlighten consumers on what constitutes their rights and obligations.”
