Lagos—The Oloto family of Oto, Lagos Mainland, Lagos State, has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris and the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Oluwafunmilayo Atilade, to come to their aid over their harassment by the Adams and Alashe families.
The family said that after several property disputes between the parties and the action of Lagos State Government to allocate their lands to third party individuals under a purported consent judgment without their knowledge, they filed an application before Justice Nwaka of a Lagos State High Court to set aside the judgment.
The Oloto family, through their lawyer, Gbenga Ajala, said that they were surprised that despite the service of court papers on the defendants as well as the Lagos State Government and its principal officials, the said families were moving against them.
The family said that after they reported the case to the Lagos State Police Command, they discovered that the defendants resorted to using police officers to frustrate their efforts.
It added that: “The said officers of the Nigeria Police Force have been used as a shield in order to take possession of property, despite the fact that the matter is pending in court.”
Ajala said that it was the plans of the officers to assist the families deliver the land to the third parties pending the outcome of the suit in court.
They appealed to the IG to investigate the matter in order to put a halt to the allegations complained about as well as ensure the safety of members of the Oloto’s family.
The family said after the first and second hearing of the case, they got to the court on the next adjourned date last January 23, only to discover that their case was not listed for hearing that day.
On enquiry from the court registrar, they were informed that the first defendant had written to the Chief Judge asking that the case file should be transferred to another judge, Justice Opesanwo.
