Governor Wike Nyesom has promised first-time investors in Rivers State attractive tax incentives and easy access to land.

A statement by the Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Austin Tam-George, quoted the governor as urging investors to take advantage of the rapid developmental strides of his administration.

The statement explained that Tam-George, who addressed some foreign media correspondents in Lagos, on Wednesday, said the Wike administration was committed to changing Rivers State for good.

Explaining the government’s tax plan, Wike, who spoke through the information commissioner, said Rivers was secure enough for investment to thrive.

The governor said first-time investors in areas such as agric, tourism, hospitality, housing and ICT would be given tax incentives and easy access to land if they invested in the state.

He said the economic plan of his administration was aimed at creating jobs, security and abundant life for the people of the state.

He said, “The narrative that Rivers State is unsafe is an ugly slander against the state by a disgruntled political opposition,” the commissioner said, adding that as the oil and gas hub in the country, Rivers State had offered the highest return on investment in Nigeria since 1958.”

The governor said that activities marking the golden jubilee celebrations of Rivers State in May would showcase the various opportunities for investment in the State.

Present at the media briefing were media organisations such as the BBC, AFP, Duetch Welle, VOA, Xinhua, CCTV, The Trent, among others.

Meanwhile, Wike has assured Rivers women that his administration will continue to be women-friendly in the march to develop the state.

Wike declared that women would always feature prominently in the creation of a ‘New Rivers State.’

The governor, who made this remark in his message to Rivers women to mark the 2017 International Women’s Day, added that women were strategically placed in his administration to help in translating the tenets of the ‘New Rivers’ development blueprint into reality.

Expressing satisfaction with the contributions of women to the growth of the state, Wike felicitated with women across the globe for their roles in the promotion of peace, development and societal stability.
