    WAEC indicts 121 schools in Kano

    KANO—No fewer than 121 secondary schools in Kano were indicted by West African Examination Council, WAEC, for examination malpractice last year.

    The Director, Kano Educational Resources Department, K.E.R.D, Alhaji Garba Gombe, said that the recent statistics for examination malpractice in the state had shown that the issue needs to be addressed properly.

    Alhaji Gombe, who spoke during a consultative meeting with WAEC, principals/ proprietors of private and public schools in Kano, said the issue required a concerted effort to tackle.

    The Director disclosed that no fewer than 97 schools received warning letters, while 24 were derecognised by the examination body due to examination malpractice last year.

    In a speech during the meeting organised by WAEC, the branch controller, Kano WAEC office, Mr. Zubairu Ayodele, disclosed that henceforth WAEC results will be released within 60 days of the last exam.

    Zubairu Ayodele further disclosed that WAEC certificate would now be made available for collection annually.

    The branch controller explained that the new examination procedures as well as latest innovations adopted by the Council were designed to safeguard its credibility.
