No fewer than three soldiers were killed in the clearance operation by troops fighting the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East, called Operation Lafiya Dole, in Sa’ada, Ganye and Gwari, Borno State.

The troops also rescued 469 abducted persons by the terrorists during a search operation in the Dikwa area of the state.

During the clearance operation in Sa’ada, Ganye and Gwari villages, where the three soldiers were killed, 14 others troops were injured in the gun battle.

It was learnt that troops of the 22 Brigade Garrison along Dikwa-Gulumba Road intercepted the 469 persons on Wednesday and after screening them, found out that they were being taken away by five Boko Haram terrorists.

According to the Army, the breakdown of the abductees showed that there were 177 women, 15 men, 127 male children and 150 female children.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, who confirmed the rescue on Thursday, said the terrorists were heading for Dikwa from Muliye and Masa villages along Dikwa-Gulumba Road in the Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State.
