The body of the slain former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles defender, Douglas Uzama, will be committed to earth on Saturday in Beinin City, Edo State.

The 18-year-old Gombe United player was shot dead by suspected cultists in Benin on December 29, 2016. Douglas was reportedly with some of his friends in a nearby bar close to their 14, Apostolic Street, off Sakponba Road residence when two boys burst in on them and shot the player at the back of his neck.

Three months after Douglas was killed, his body is ready to be buried. Our correspondent learnt that the burial was delayed till now as examinations were being conducted on the body.

According to the Secretary of the National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballers, Austin Popo, the body would be retrieved from the Central Hospital in Benin for burial at a cemetery along Sapele road, Benin City.

Popo said, “The former Gombe United player will be laid to rest along Sapele road, Benin City. It is a sad occurrence and we hope his killers will eventually be brought to book and made to face the result of their deed.

“NANPF have requested that all footballers and fans, who want to take part in the ceremony, should converge at the Central Hospital, Benin, where the body would be received for burial.”
