The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, on Sunday asked Nigerian politicians to emulate the founding fathers of the country in using dialogue and compromise instead of conflict to resolve issues.

Obiano, who spoke through his  Senior Special Assistant on Media, Strategic Communications and Legislative Matters, Prince Oliver Okpala, described dialogue as the hallmark of peace and conflict resolution.

He said the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Sir Tafawa Balewa “in the First Republic applied this doctrine of political dialogue in their political solutions to issues.”

Obiano said this brought to the political sages “success, wisdom and recognition by the electorate.”

He said political dialogue “is the requirement for the enthronement of peace and harmony in the country’s orbit of partisan politics.”

The governor added that dialogue was the only peaceful means open to politicians to resolve issues of political positions without bitterness, thuggery, enmity, rancour  and hatred.

He was reacting to his endorsement by the Anambra North Peoples Assembly as its sole candidate for the November 18 governorship election in the state.

He described the decision as a wise one, putting into consideration the fact that he was doing well in governance.

Obiano said, “The fact that this endorsement is a unanimous decision of the political heavy weights  and stakeholders from the North Senatorial zone and cut across party lines makes the endorsement more significant and symbolic.”
