The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed, has said that his command has arrested 131 suspects for various offences between January 10 and February 28, 2017, while 21 hostages were also rescued within the period.

Ahmed, while speaking with journalists on Friday, attributed the latest success to a number of proactive measures adopted by the command including criminal mapping, intelligence gathering, regular patrols and raids on ‘black spots.’

The commissioner revealed that among the suspects arrested were notorious kidnappers, Isa Lawal, Bello Shomo and Rabo Mohammed, who is also a serial rapist.

According to him, 93 suspects have so far been charged to court, 14 cleared, while 21 are currently under investigation.

He further disclosed that one AK 47 rifle, one Diana Mode 27 rifle, one single barrel gun, several arms and ammunition, and others such as handsets, motorcycles, cash and hard drugs were recovered from the suspects.

He said, “It is pertinent to mention here that all the aforementioned successes were made possible through cooperation with well-meaning members of the public and the sheer patriotism to engender a safe and secure environment for all residents.”
