Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, on Wednesday invited Austria Wien’s Olanrewaju Kayode as a replacement for injured Victor Osimhen of Wolfsburg for the friendly matches against Senegal and Burkina Faso in London on March 23 and 27 respectively.
Rohr had named Osimhen, who has yet to play any match for the Wolves, in his 25-man squad for the two matches.
But the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup Golden Boot winner has yet to recover from his injury at the Bundesliga side forcing Rohr to invite Olanrewaju for the matches.
The replacement was confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation on their Twitter handle on Wednesday.
“Olanrewaju Kayode of Austria Wien has been invited in place of Victor Osimhen, who is still recovering from injury,” the NFF wrote.
Olanrewaju has scored 16 goals for his Austrian side this season. The former Maccabi Netanya of Israel striker also scored three goals for Wien in the Europa League this season. He scored in both legs of their clash with AS Roma in the group stages of the competition.
He has scored 25 goals in 65 appearances for the Austrian side since joining them in 2015 from Israeli side Netanya.
The 23-year-old played for the Golden Eaglets at the 2009 U-17 World Cup. He also featured for the Flying Eagles in 2010. He has yet to make a senior appearance for the Eagles.
