The Edo State chapter ‎of the All Progressives Congress has expressed confidence that the appointment of commissioners and other members of the state executive council by Governor Godwin Obaseki would reflect the fairness and balance that the party’s constitution represents.

Obaseki, who assumed office on November 12, 2016, is yet to appoint any commissioner for his cabinet.

However, the governor had hinted that political appointees would come from the ward and local government levels and directed members of the APC to select their nominees, who would be screened by a committee.

But the development appeared to have resulted in a disagreement among party members in some of the local government areas over who should produce the appointees.

Some APC members in Owan West LGA had last Friday raised the alarm over alleged marginalisation by some leaders of the party in Edo North senatorial district.

The spokesman for the protesters, John Ogbeta, had decried the alleged plot to cede one of the slots to a neighbouring LGA.

“We want the office of Special Adviser back to Owan West, we did not benefit anything during Governor (Adams) Oshiomhole’s eight-year administration,” Ogbeta had said.

‎But the APC state chairman, Anselm Ojezua, told our correspondent on Sunday that the governor had endeavoured to create a framework to ensure that appointment were fair to all, adding that an attempt to pre-empt the government would amount to a blackmail.
