AS part of activities marking the annual mothering week of Women’s Guild of Yaba Presbyterian Church, the group on Thursday donated relief materials to the female wing of the Kirikiri Prison’s in Lagos.
Members of the Women’s Guild did not hide their motherly tears and sympathy for the female inmates as they prayed and asked for God’s intervention and mercy for the inmates.
Leading the prayer session, the president of the group, Mrs. Ogbonne Olua counselled the inmates to be hopeful, stressing that despite the circumstances they have found themselves, their dreams oould still be realised, adding that God is not blind nor deaf to their plight.
Mrs. Olua urged the Kirikiri inmates to be prayerful and obedient to authorities. “Be obedient, do not be hostile, we know how you feel being here but learn to be obedient to the authorities who watch over you. Hold on to God, He alone can do what no man can do and I know He will not forsake you nor leave you,” she said.
In her message, the group’s prayer coordinator, Mrs. Ngozi Okoroafor assured the inmates that God feels their pains and challenges and He will show them mercy notwithstanding the duration of their confinement in the prison. “God will send help to you, change your name and He is able to change your situation and meet all your challenges,” she said
Addressing journalists after the tour, Olua said: “We feel it is necessary that we visit the female inmates to show them love that despite their incanceration, God still love them. We have been to the prison severally and we know that some of them have babies hence we decided to go with baby needs ranging from milk, pampers, clothing materials for mothers and babies, food stuff among others.”
