OLEH—THE people of Isoko nation have set up a 15-man committee to monitor electricity supply and payment of bills, as part of efforts to step up power supply to all communities in Isokoland.
The committee which is comprised of representatives from Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, Isoko Development Union, IDU, Isoko North and South Local Government Areas, Presidents General of communities and youths of Isoko nation, will also catalogue and fashion out means of tackling the problems militating against stable power supply in the communities.
President-General of IDU, Chief Iduh Amadhe, while inaugurating the committee at a meeting attended by Chairmen of Isoko North and South councils, Mr. Emmanuel Egbabor and Sir Ithiako Ikpokpo respectively, representatives of BEDC and leaders of various communities, said that plans had also been concluded for Thames Vpower Group, a power generating firm, to establish a power plant in the area to enhance sustainable power supply to Isokoland.
In their remarks Egbabor and Ikpokpo lamented that epileptic power supply had led to the collapse of businesses in the communities, noting that the initiative was to ensure that electricity was available, realistic and affordable.
