Owerri – Imo state, has attributed the level of criticisms against his administration to “denominational egotism” among citizens of the state.

Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Public Utilities, Mr. Obinna Nshirim, said this while fielding questions on the government owned radio station Imo Broadcasting Corporation ,IBC, in Owerri.

Nshirim was not happy that some people have criticized the government for building a chapel.

He boosted that “Since the creation of Imo state in 1976 no civilian government has deemed it fit to build a place of worship.”

The commissioner said: “Let us appreciate good things my brother. They say government has no business building churches. It is not true.

“Let me tell you, it is a privilege to build a house of God. David wanted to build a house of God and God said to him no your hands are stain. You cannot build for me.

“You know we are suffering from what I call denominational egotism. It is unnecessary struggles. But now, we have the victory chapel built by Okorocha, is there if you want to seek the face of God go there.

“I have said this before, our men of God should play politics after all they play politics in their diocese. If you see the way they post Rev. Fr. it is church politics.

“If you see the number of Catholic priest that have gone to abroad there is element of church politics. We have juicy postings. They should play their politics. But what we are against is to come into the murky water of politics.”
