The 2017 Splash Ibadan City Marathon has been scheduled to hold in Ibadan on April 9.
The men’s category of the 2016 edition was won by Iliya Pam from Nasarawa State after completing the 42.1km race in two hours, 39mins and 37 secs. He was rewarded with N600,000.
Lamide Oluwaseun from Lagos won the women’s version after completing the race in three hours, 15 mins and 20 secs. She got N400,000 for her effort.
According to the organisers of the race, there will be an increase in the prize money for this year’s competition. They added that in the past eight years, the race had encouraged both up-and-coming and veteran long-distance runners.
According to the head of the Main Organising Committee for the competition, Bisi Ashimolowo, about N3m will be presented to winners.
The South-West Zonal Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr. Yemi Usikaye, promised participants and the public that the ministry was ready to deliver a world-class event that would match the high standard associated with the ministry.
He said registration for the race had commenced at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.
