The Lagos State Government says there is more work to be done to make the state cleaner.
The Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr Benson Oke, said this at the opening of a two-day workshop in Ikeja, tagged, ‘Strategic Communication for a Clean Lagos,’ organised by the ministry in conjunction with Messrs XLS Consulting.
He said the state workforce should be the carriers of the message of a cleaner Lagos to the nooks and crannies of the state.
“Lagos once had a reputation for being a disorganised city. However, sustained efforts since 1999 have ensured that Lagos is no longer in the class of dirty cities. But more work still needs to be done,” he said.
Oke stated that to enhance a cleaner environment, the issue of pollution must be tackled, adding that people who lived in places with high levels of air pollutants had a 20 per cent higher risk of death from lung cancer.
He said, “We all understand that it is one thing to have a plan or policy to tackle the challenges in place, but it is totally a different matter to have a strategy for communicating the benefits inherent in the policy. This workshop will help the civil service craft a strategic policy for communicating Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s laudable agenda for a cleaner Lagos.”
