The people of Ugbomro community, in Uvwie local government area of Delta State, where the Federal University of Petroleum Resources FUPRE is sited, have vowed to reject any further attempt by the Federal Government to deny them the right of ownership of the land hosting the Petroleum University.
Briefing Journalists at his palace in Ugbomro, the traditional prime minister (Unuevoro) of Ugbomro community, High Chief Ambrose Tadafe Olughor JP, insisted that the Petroleum University is sited in Ugbmoro and requested for adequate recognition of Ugbomro as host to the university to avert further crisis and breakdown of law and order in the community.
Olughor said: “Henceforth, it should be rightfully known as the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE, Ugbomro, and not Effurun or Delta State. The distance between Ugbomro and Effurun is 12miles, therefore, it is fraudulent and wrong for Effurun claiming host to FUPRE, because when former President Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to me to provide a land for the University, the people of Ugbomro gladly gave the land to the Federal Government, we have all the documents, they even surveyed the land and did not pay any compensation to our people”
He said Effurun community cannot claim ownership of the land, noting that it is very disturbing that Ugbomro people who own and freely donated the land to the Federal Government for the university are not recognized as host to the University by the Federal Government and management of the university.
