ASABA—CRISIS is brewing in Idumuje Ugboko, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State, over the rightful choice of a successor to Obi Albert Nwoko III, the traditional ruler of the kingdom who passed on early last month.
The family of Nwoko, traditional chiefs and kingmakers in the kingdom are divided over the matter, with a section of the palace installing Prince Justin Nwoko as king while Prince Uche Nwoko, an 18-year old is gaining popularity as the rightful successor.
Prince Uche’s supporters say he is more qualified on the ground that both of his parents are from Idumuje-Ugboko.
Community sources described the development as a set back to the customs of the people, alleging that the notification of relevant authorities and requisite formalities were not followed.
A family source told newsmen: “Any coronation should wait until after the three months burial rites for the late king.”
