A 40-year-old father, Olawoyin Olaogun, was on Friday docked at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for physically assaulting his daughter.
Olaogun was brought before Magistrate Sule Aminat for beating his nine-year-old daughter mercilessly, causing her serious grievous harm.
The prosecutor, Corporal Lucky Ihiehie, said the accused, who resides at 7, Shoyemi Maidan, Orile Mile 12, Lagos, committed the offence on March 2, at his residence.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that neighbours reported the case to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team.
The team coordinator, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the team informed the family unit of Ketu Police Station, leading to the arrest of the accused.
“According to the abused child, her father battered her because she left the door open, thereby suspecting that a charm had been poured into his apartment by an unknown person.
“So, he battered me severely, such that our neighbours had to call the attention of the team,” she said.
The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted a N200,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.
Magistrate Aminat adjourned the case till March 30 for further hearing.
The team has taken the child from the family to a welfare home for proper care. (NAN)
