Yenagoa— Chairmen of Brass and Nembe Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State, Bello Bina  and Chief Kuroghofa Benwari, have waded into the lingering dispute between Odioma community in Brass and Obioku community in Nembe over ownership of some settlements in the boundary area between the two communities.

To this end, a joint committee with members drawn from the two councils is to be inaugurated this week in Yenagoa to investigate and proffer solutions to the lingering dispute between the two Nembe speaking communities.

According to the chairmen, “Following ownership tussle over some settlements in the boundary area of Obioku and Odioma communities arising from the ongoing census enumeration  demarcation exercise, the Brass and Nembe councils have decided to set up a Special Joint Committee to intervene and investigate the lingering land dispute between indigenes of Odioma community in Brass and those of Obioku community of Nembe-Bassambiri in Nembe council.

“The decision is aimed at forestalling an imminent inter-communal crisis and provide a lasting  solution. We, therefore, called on the affected communities to  give peace a chance and wait for the inauguration of the committee and subsequent amicable resolution of the matter.

“The  youths in the affected communities should maintain law and order and desist from acts that may lead to bloodshed,” they said.
