THE pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has condemned the alleged brutalisation of a National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member, Esi Uwakwe, by police in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State.
Condemning the act, the Yoruba group said if the scheme should continue, graduates should serve in their states of origin.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, Afenifere said: “Our attention has been drawn to the story of brutalisation of a corps member, Esi Uwakwe, serving in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, by the police at the instance of an influential indigene.”
The statement called for perpetrators of the act to be brought to book.
The NYSC member was alleged to have asked a student to kneel, an action which prompted the guardian of the pupil involved to invite the police to the school to deal with the instructor.
The NYSC member was allegedly brutalised, arrested and further beaten at the police station.
